About Portals

What is Portals?

Portals is a line of themed mini-anthologies from Hybris Press (that’s us, the publisher of OTHERSIDE!). Each chapbook-sized installment will be helmed by a new guest editor, and will be available in ebook and print formats, as well as free to read online after a subscription period. Guest editors will be paid an honorarium, and we’ll provide all the funds/resources (including use of Moksha and our website). All proceeds from the issue will go to a charity of the guest editor’s choice!

Right now, there will only be one edition of Portals in 2026 and one in 2027 as we ensure we have the funding to support this new initiative. If you’d like to support us providing more publication AND editorial opportunities for queer writers, you can join our Patreon or support us on Ko-Fi!

Portals #1

Portals #1 drops in late October 2026! This first installment is being co-edited by the incredible Angel Leal and Jess Cho, who were looking for horror fiction/poetry specifically by trans authors (submissions are now closed). All proceeds from sales of this installment will go to Trans Lifeline.

Future Guest Editors

Portals #2 is scheduled for 2027, so later in 2026 or early 2027, we’ll open an application for guest editors! This form will ask you to share your vision/theme, any experience, why you’re interested, and the charity you’d like to support. You’re welcome to submit by yourself, or with co-editors. No theme is too specific! We can’t wait to see what you come up with.
